Validation of Sea-Surface Temperature Data for Potential OTEC Deployment in the Mexican Pacific

چکیده
As the operation of an ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) plant depends on temperature gradient between surface and deeper water (SST), a variation in SST can significantly modify produced. The aim this paper is to present comparative analysis three sea-surface databases (World Ocean Atlas (WOA), Satellite Oceanic Monitoring System (SATMO), situ sensor measurements). Simple linear regression graphic comparisons allow correlations be made distribution patterns data. results show that there no statistically significant difference databases. To determine general regions where OTEC implementation possible, at macroscale, WOA database recommended, as smaller amount data must analyzed. For meso- microscales, such specific areas Mexican exclusive economic zone. It better use SATMO measurements higher spatial resolution required.

Capabilities of data assimilation in correcting sea surface temperature in the Persian Gulf
Predicting the quality of water and air is a particular challenge for forecasting systems that support them. In order to represent the small-scale phenomena, a high-resolution model needs accurate capture of air and sea circulations, significant for forecasting environmental pollution. Data assimilation is one of the state of the art methods to be used for this purpose. Due to the importance of...

متن کاملHistorical Remotely Sensed Sea Surface Temperature Data for Prediction of Coral Bleaching Event in Kish Island, the Persian Gulf
The capability of Degree Heating Weeks index (DHWs) was examined for prediction of bleaching events in the coral reef communities of the Kish Island located in the north of the Persian Gulf. In doing so, weekly Sea Surface Temperature (SST) values (in 1°×1° spatial resolution) prepared by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), coupled with documented bleaching events, such...
متن کاملPacific sea surface temperature and the winter of 2014
It is shown from historical data and from modeling experiments that a proximate cause of the cold winter in North America in 2013–2014 was the pattern of sea surface temperature (SST) in the Pacific Ocean. Each of the three dominant modes of SST variability in the Pacific is connected to the tropics and has a strong expression in extratropical SST and weather patterns. Beginning in the middle o...
متن کاملA model of the tropical Pacific sea surface temperature climatology
A model for the climatological mean sea surface temperature (SST) of the tropical Pacific Ocean is developed. The upper ocean response is computed using a time dependent, linear, reduced gravity model, with the addition of a constant depth frictional surface layer. The full three-dimensional temperature equation and a surface heat flux parameterization that requires pecification ofonly wind spe...
